Micro-region Valasskomeziricsko-Kelecsko
Covenant of the municipalities of micro-region Valasskomeziricsko-Kelecsko officially came into being in 2001.This association has nowadays more than 42 thousands inhabitants and consists of 16 municipalities with the area about 180 km2.
According to the number of inhabitants, smaller municipalities (less then 1000 inhabitants) are mainly represented. Only Valašské Mezirici,
Kelc, Lesna and Zasova has its population over 1.800 inhabitant. Micro-region is situated in the northern part of the
Vsetin region and borders with micro-region Podhostynsko, Vsetinsko, Roznovsko and Hranicko.Micro-region consists of the following municipalities: Branky, Choryne, Jarcova, Kelc, Kladeruby, Kunovice, Lesna, Loucka, Mikuluvka, Oznice, Podoli, Police, Stritez nad Becvou, Valasske Mezirici, Velka Lhota and Zasova.
Altitude in the region is from 280 metres above sea level in Lesna to 749 metres above sea level in Zasova.
The most important sights of the whole region are original historical town centres in Valasske Mezirici and Kelc . There are as well important cultural sights and parks.
By the Lesna castle is situated the most valuable landscaping park in the northern Moravia where you can find variety of rare kinds
of trees and other plants. Valasske Mezirici is a significant economical and social centre of the micro-region and of the whole region with old tradition of education and cultural life.
Due to this fact is Valasske Mezirici sometimes called "Wallachian Athens".
Surroundings of the city of Kelc had been settled in early Stone age by the people with linear ceramics and in 1938 was found one of the biggest treasure in the country - collection of coins and silver from the 10th or beginning of the 11th century which proves signification of Kelecsko in the history of Czech Republic.
Microregion Valasskomeziricsko-Kelecsko is the region where a lot of cultural and sport actions takes place. Traditional folkways are still maintained in many villages - for example Shroving, Spring welcoming, Feast celebrations etc.
More known events in region are: Meeting of non-traditional theatres, Moravian poetry festival, Valassky spalicek - music festival and a lot of people´s events (Goulash festival, Hrachovka - music festival) and sport events.
Micro-region is also very attractive for tourists. Region offers more exacting trips to Hostyn and Vsetin hills or to Moravian-Silesian Beskydy mountains which inclose the region. Ways for hikers are well marked and also a lot of new bike-ways was built in the last years.
